Franchise Case Study: Boulangerie de France

CASE STUDY– Boulangerie de France

Peter Weernink joined the Boulangerie de France Provincial Bakery and Café franchise in 2010 as a franchisee in Parramatta’s Westfield Shoppingtown, an expansive shopping centre in Sydney’s Western suburbs.

Peter, originally from the Netherlands migrated to Australia in 2008 to begin a new life. “It was the right time for me to go in search of a new life and Australia offers such a wonderful quality of life” Peter says when asked why he chose to come to Australia. It was an easy transition for Peter leaving one of Paris’ premier patisserie outlets to working for a small patisserie in one of Sydney’s exclusive suburbs.

The desire to branch out and go into business for himself had Peter researching opportunities for more than a year before finally deciding to join Boulangerie de France as a franchisee.

Surprisingly Peter is the only Boulangerie de France franchisee with a background in patisserie. “We provide a complete training program and while no specific experience is required we are looking for potential franchisee’s with a desire to learn, but more importantly we are looking for people who care about keeping their customers happy!” says Boulangerie de France director Anthony Smith.

“I had no idea how to start a business in Australia or how to find a suitable shop or how to deal with suppliers.” Peter says of why he didn’t just go it alone. “They [Boulangerie de France] did everything for me!”

As the General Manager of Boulangerie de France, Andrew El lali says “The partners of Boulangerie de France have more than 50 years of retail experience between them and have built, opened and operated numerous stores. We know what it’s like to start from nothing and we’re there to ensure our new franchisees have every assistance to make their transition into business an easy one.”
