| Gladstone – A region of Opportunity
Gladstone is a modern City located 550 kilometers north of Brisbane and approximately 100 kilometers south-east of Rockhampton.
The region has a thriving economic market and is becoming a key area within Australia for domestic and international investment. Currently, the Gladstone Region has over $20 billion worth of projects either under construction, under investigation or recently completed. The region stands as one of Australia’s most important economic hubs.
The huge growth in coal exploration and mining in the region coupled with multi million dollar tourism attractions places the Gladstone Region in a position of long term prosperity and growth. (KPMG’s Population Growth Report 2005), ranked Gladstone 7th out of the 70 largest Cities in Australia in terms of percentage population growth. Gladstone airport currently handles 190,000 passengers a year, it is anticipated that this will increase to 310,000 per year by 2010. As a result plans are in place to upgrade the airport which will allow additional services to fly into Gladstone.
While Gladstone is a major processing centre for the resource-rich region, the City retains much of the charm of a coastal resort setting with an enviable lifestyle. Gladstone frequently wins the “Tidy Towns” award for the City’s infrastructure and aesthetics. With a mean minimum temperature in July of 13°C and a mean maximum of 31°C in January, the climate enables year round enjoyment of outdoor and water-based recreational activities.

The Gladstone Region is unique, where both tourism and major industry co-exist harmoniously. It is the only gateway to the whole of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. World renowned Heron Island is just 72km north-east of Gladstone, here you can enjoy some of the world’s best reef diving.
One of Gladstone Regions’ next tourist destinations is Curtis Island and the proposed residential tourism development on the south-eastern side of the island. Curtis Island is accessed from the world-class Gladstone Marina. What will differentiate this development from other Australian resort projects will be the unique combination of Australian experiences: Beaches, “Outback”, Reef and Wilderness all in one location.
13,250 hectares of Curtis Island is National Park providing an abundance of flora, fauna and wildlife. The historic Monte Christo Cattle Station on Curtis Island has operated continuously since the 1860s and continues to be a working ranch today, providing significant tourist appeal. Curtis Island has 27 kilometers of Coral Sea beaches along a highly-scenic shoreline featuring rugged bluffs and headlands, sand dune formations and long stretches of idyllic sands.
Due to be launched in early 2008, Curtis Island offers an opportunity to be part of a unique Australian development. No other product or place in Australia combines beaches, Great Barrier Reef access, wilderness, Marine Park and cattle station access.

The proposed resort will comprise detached villas, duplexes and one and two bedroom apartments. Proposed resort facilities will include resort pools, restaurants and bars, gym, lap pool and sauna, tennis courts, a clubhouse, central facilities and conference rooms and access to a broad range of water sports.
