To help you save the easy way
Moving to a new country and setting yourself up is a big thing. There are lots of things to do and loads of things to think about. Where are you going to live, how do you find a job and there’s also all those little things like setting up a bank account. You might find that your move eats into your savings because let’s face it, moving to a new country is a big thing. But saving doesn’t have to be difficult and most of the time if you use some careful planning and common sense it can be even easier.
Whether you’re hoping to save to buy a home, a car or you’re building a nest egg, incorporating some of these easy savings methods into your daily life could help you get there even faster.

Here are some really simple (and maybe even obvious) tips on saving:
n Look for a home loan and bank account that offers you the best options for your personal circumstances – those with limited fees can provide you with that choice.
n Pay yourself first. Every time you get paid, make sure you place a portion of your salary into a savings account. Because you never see it, you won’t miss it and many employers in Australia will deduct money straight from your salary on your behalf if you ask them.
n Keep your everyday account separate from your savings account so you won’t be tempted to dip into your savings.
n Have a budget and stick to it. Decide how much you have to spend every week, fortnight etc and try not to go over that.
n Avoid impulse buying – really consider whether you need something before paying
for it.
n Set up regular electronic transfers to your savings account.
Save on fees!
Be smart about saving on the little things that can add up, like banking fees. Follow this list of useful tips:
n Make sure you know what fees you are paying on your account and choose an account for you that has the lowest fees, whilst still offering you the accessibility
you want.
n Consider savings and transaction accounts that provide you with plenty of free monthly transactions.
n If you have a fee-free transaction limit – make sure you don’t exceed your limit for
the month.
n Make sure you use the ATM that’s associated with your bank account so that you don’t incur direct charges from another provider – this can add up to lots of money.
n Use Internet and Phone Banking where you can – this is generally the cheapest option.
