Coffs Coast - Mid North Coast of New South Wales
Imagine living in a place where the white sandy beaches are yours for the taking, the air is fresh and clean, where the pace of life is relaxing, the mountains and forests are just a stones throw away and the ocean and marine parks are at your doorstep.
If only you could enjoy all of this and still do business successfully and conveniently whilst enjoying the lifestyle. You can, on the Coffs Coast.
The Coffs Coast is located in the mid north coast region of New South Wales approximately half way between Sydney and Brisbane. The Coffs Coast encompasses the major regional town of Coffs Harbour, the smaller regional towns of Bellingen and Nambucca, the quaint coastal villages of Woolgoolga, Red Rock, Corindi, Sawtell, Urunga and Scotts Head, the rural towns of the Orara Valley, Bowraville and Macksville and the beautiful hinterland town of Dorrigo. The region’s diversity of lifestyle, economic and social opportunities is reflected in the variety of unique local cultures and individual communities.
Coffs Harbour and its surrounding coastal villages sit in a unique position where the Great Dividing Range descends from the inland plateau to meet the Australian East Coast, which makes for spectacular hinterland and forested hills. Offshore, the Solitary Islands are the meeting point for the warm tropical currents from the north and the temperate waters from the south, resulting in a wide spectrum of marine life and sparkling blue waters.
The natural environment boasts 44
unspoilt beaches, 37 state forests, 15 national parks and reserves, 5 magnificent rivers, 84,000 ha of world heritage area and 87,000 ha of the Solitary Islands Marine Park. The Woolgoolga headland has some of the best coastal views in New South Wales, stretching north and south along the horizon.
The area is also rich in traditional Australian history and culture. The first people to travel the shores, waterways and islands of the place now called the Solitary Islands Marine Park were the Gumbayngirr aboriginal people. The 1800’s also saw a thriving timber industry and more recently the banana industry became the backbone of the Coffs Coast economy until the late 1960’s.
The government planning authorities have identified the Coffs Coast as a growth area with the population expected to grow by 30% from almost 69,000 to 99,000 by 2031. This translates into an annual growth rate of 1.5%, which is amongst the highest regional growth rates in NSW.
New residents and visitors alike are being attracted to Coffs Harbour for its pristine ocean beaches, temperate climate, mix of recreational experiences, its natural and rural hinterland, accessibility to the major capital cities and the existing infrastructure and facilities.
Existing facilities that support the community are:
< Airport – one of the largest and busiest regional airports in NSW where the two major carriers in Australia offer around 47 return services weekly to the major capital cities.
Hospitals/Specialists – An 80 bed Private hospital offering medical, surgical, obstetric and rehabilitation services and the newly completed 226 bed Coffs Harbour Health Campus.
< Education – 31 preschools and childcare centres, 22 primary schools (5 private), 8 high schools (3 Private).
