There are 12 different General Skilled Migration visas available. There are 3 basic categories:-
- are you currently in Australia
- are you currently outside Australia
- are you a New Zealand citizen
Within each category there are similar visa classes that you can apply for, but some of the requirements change.
Generally, your options are:-
- if you don’t have any relatives in Australia your options are limited to:-
Skilled Independent (subclass 136) visa
Skill Matching (subclass 134) visa
Skilled Independent Regional (subclass 495) visa
State/Territory Nominated Independent (subclass 137) visa
- if you do have relatives in Australia, the additional options include:-
Skilled Australian Sponsored (subclass 138) visa
Skilled Designated Area Sponsored (subclass 139) visa
- if you are a New Zealand citizen your options also include:-
Skilled Onshore Independent New Zealand Citizen (subclass 861) visa
Skilled Onshore Australian Sponsored New Zealand Citizen (subclass 862) visa
Skilled Onshore Designated Area Sponsored New Zealand Citizen (subclass 863) visa
Under all categories you must pass the points test to qualify for a visa. The points test takes into account the following list:-
- Skills - Points are awarded under the Skilled Occupation List (SOL), Sydney and Selected Areas Skill Shortage List (SSASSL) refer to your specific occupation below
- Age
- English
- Specific work experience
- Occupation in demand/Job offer Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) - if your occupation is on the list it provides you with 20 points if you already have an offer of full-time employment in Australia, or 15 points if you do not have a job offer. Refer your specific occupation below. IMPORTANT it is still possible to achieve the points required without being on the MODL list.
